Things I perhaps should have mentioned at my interview yesterday:
- People often come to me for advice. Specifically, advice about:
- Shoes!
- Clothing!
- Accessories!
- Hair!
- Makeup!
- Actually, people don't so much come to me for advice about makeup as I run into them at CVS and single-handedly transform them from someone who can only stare in bewilderment at the rows and rows of lipstick to someone actually in possession of lipstick in an awesome and very flattering shade.
- I WORK MAGIC.
- ...and, occasionally, Real-Life Very Important Issues.
- And also, grammar.
Things I actually did mention at my interview yesterday:
- Nothing that wasn't already on my resume
- That I'm a really good communicator, during the course of which I fumbled all the government vocabulary they'd been throwing at me
- That if I don't care, I probably won't do a great job on the subject in question, because they asked something like "What's a weak point of yours?" and I am always, always stupendously honest. And then I fumbled around some more that even though it's a weakness I try not to let it impact me professionally and blah blah blah, like, WAY TO GO, SELF. Maybe I should've said, "My weakness is that I NEVER KNOW WHEN TO STOP TALKING."
In other unfortunate news, I still can't find my copy of Canticle for Leibowitz, and it's all checked out at the library, so to the bookstore I will go! But in the meantime, I've got a vague outline for the Out of the Silent Planet section, and I'm working on the Brave New World section. It'll probably be a pretty quote-heavy paper, which is a little unfortunate, but I'm past the point of caring, honestly.
At least the day started off pretty well, and is really still going pretty well. I woke up for my 9AM class (by which I mean, I hit snooze for twenty minutes and then Matt called me to make sure I was awake, bless him), and then I checked my email and saw that class was canceled! Yay! And then I went back to bed and slept for another two hours. And then I dragged myself out of bed and made coffee. I make really good coffee. I'm on my second cup now and I feel good.
