I like Amy Tan as well. I have read her Snowflower and the Secret Fan--I think that was the name of it.

Snowflower and the secret fan is Lisa See... Amy Tan wrote Joy Luck Club and many others! I haven't read the Lisa See book yet...I'll have to get it too!

You are right--I had the wrong author. I read many books and sometimes the books and authors swirl like a big fog and I don't remember what I have and haven't read. I have never read Joy Luck Club, though.

I just finished John Grisham's book "Playing for Pizza" where a football player moves to Italy to play. It wasn't my favorite book of his, but I loved the parts about the food! My mouth was watering! Dinner is an event there and goes on forever. I could live with that. :)

I have read every book Grisham has written, except for this one. I love Italian food and I just ate a plate of pasta with tomatoes and shrimp. It was great and too fattening when I am supposed to be losing weight.

Sounds like a good book. I think it'd be interesting to go to Italy. :)

And I don't think I'd have the patience to sit and meditate.

I have been to Italy for just one day when I was vacationing in Monaco. We took a day trip to a little town just over the border.

Annie, the French countryside is incredible. I can't say what Italy is really like, but I think that if I could pick a place to go for an extended time--no money or time restrictions, this is what I would choose.
