Friday night's all right for vampires

There is a new teevee show I love that I'm actually not ashamed to tout.  Yeah, it's my new obsession, meaning I spent all last night re-watching the 4 episodes that are available on CBS's website -- unfortunately the first episode is MIA.

The show is Moonlight.   It's on Friday night, a good night for obsessive fandoms (ref: The X-Files).  A hunky angst-filled vampire who's a private investigator, played by Alex O'Loughlin (where has he been all my life?); his budding relationship with a spunky, fearless reporter who of course happens to be an attractive blonde, played by Sophia Myles; his 400-year-old friend and confidant Josef, very much at ease with his own vampireness, played by the excellent Jason Dohring; and assorted fine supporting characters. There is also the ex-wife who turned him into a vamp on their wedding night,  who he thinks he killed, but I expect that is not the case.

The acting is good, the chemistry between the two leads is amazing, the scripts are pretty original, and it's all done in a film noir style, complete with voice-overs by the P.I.-vampire main character.   I was stunned to learn that both O'Loughlin and Myles are not  American.  She's British and he's an Aussie.

If you think this sounds like Angel, you are wrong.   OK, both main characters are vampire P.I.s, but the similarities end there.
Friday is not just TGIF day for us Monday-to-Friday worker bees, it's even better because of this show.  For those vampire-lovers on my flist (you know who you are) check it out if you haven't already done so.  You can get up to speed on the story so far on the CBS-TV website, or by Googling 'moonlight' (it's the first thing that comes up).

Is it Friday yet? :-D
