[REC] Toward the Terra
I discovered this series only this week and, even though I haven't finished it yet, I just have to rec it. It's so beautiful and amazing, I would feel like a major loser if I didn't show you all what you're missing. It's got that little tinge of old school that makes it kick ass, but then it's got the pretty as well, and I swear every episode has more action than the last. It's not a little fling anime - you have to want it. It's a mature series, lots of different themes which are offset by super cool psychic powers and dramatic space battles. The animation is very good and modern enough to be appealing but still with that sense that you're watching something meticulously made, no 3D animation or anything. The soundtrack is haunting, Enya-like at times, and then, of course, you have Soldier Blue. Seriously, after him, you really don't need anything else.
In the far future, humanity has left behind an environmentally destroyed Terra and began colonization in order to reproduce their home. Humanity, now ruled by a super computer that controls the birth of children, sees the emergence of a new race called the "Mu". The Mu, now hidden from the rest of humanity, have one dream, to return home, to Terra...
