In an effort to get to know some of you better, and pass a pleasant afternoon with friends, I'm having a small gathering in my quarters tomorrow at 1600. Refreshments will be provided. And please feel free to bring a friend along.

Near 4 pm the following day (ship's time), James was putting the finishing touches on the display. A white tablecloth covered the table, and trays of replicated sandwiches, scones, and little fruit things he'd seen pictures of while doing research were arranged neatly. He'd been irritated by the fact that the replicators didn't understand cutting the crusts off, so he'd had to do it himself. Still, it'd been the first opportunity he'd had to use a knife in some time. And, of course, there was a selection of tea.
He took his refreshment beforehand. Replicated brandy was better than none at all.
