Strange things are afoot...

Yesterday was a very unusual day. When I woke up, the power was out. Later that morning, it was still out. And not just our house. The power was out in the entire housing complex we live in (which is quite large), including a gas station, store, Popeye’s chicken, even several traffic lights. This went on for the entire day. When I went to bed after midnight, the power was still out. This created some problems. First of all, we were cut off from the world as far as communication goes- no phone (we only have cordless phones), no computer, and no television. Not even a radio. Second, Alexander could not understand why we wouldn’t let him watch his children’s videos. Toddlers cannot understand blackouts. All he knew was that we were being mean to him. The only solution was to stay out of the house all day. We sometimes do this anyway, but we really didn’t feel like doing it yesterday. Thankfully, the power was back on this morning. Unfortunately, much of the food in the refrigerator didn’t fare so well. At least it’s all behind us now. Whenever we lose power on occasion, it really reminds of how much we have come to rely on technology. Checking e-mail, making phone calls, watching the news; these are all things we do on a daily basis, not to mention the refrigerator, stove, hot water heater, lights, and numerous household appliances we take for granted. It’s hard to imagine how our forefathers lived without all of these things. Unfortunately, thinking of how our ancestors lived doesn’t really make me more thankful that we have all of these things. It makes me thankful I wasn’t born back then. Heh heh.
Today has been overall better, but not without its mishaps. I opened the refrigerator this morning, and the maple syrup tumbled out of the door. The maple syrup was in a glass bottle. I’ve never seen a mess quite like it. The only silver lining (and I use that term loosely) was that the thickness of the syrup actually prevented the glass shards from scattering everywhere. It was still a pain to clean up. Now we are busy getting the house in order for Nathan’s arrival. That’s about all that’s going on right now. Oh, I did finish the arduous task of medaling in every Warioware game. It unlocked Pyoro 2. It’s an interesting little game.
