We're too young to put up with crapjobs if we don't have to!

Come visit me in Japan!

Umm... That's what being young is...

There aren't many 14 year old CEOs or 9 year old neuro scientists.

"crapjobs" is a subjective term. I rather enjoyed working hard labour as a kid... but could never bring myself down to retail or some sort of customer relations thing. The money is crap, the hours are unreliable and variable.

I'd rather do construction than those, hehe.

It's great exercise, hours are steady (8-9 hours per day) and the pay is great. Unskilled people start at 12 dollars a hour and go up from there.

Well well, Mr. better-than-the-rest-of-us-customer-service-slobs. :P

You start where you must.

Oh ouch ;)

I merely wished to state that customer service is close to the bottom of my list of desirables.

Listening to Nix's frequent horror stories about mixing up schedules, forced into bad hours etc...

I like the stability (and pay) of construction.

How was that condescending or belittling?

Also, reg Start where we must...

It's more like start where you want... there are tonnes of low level entry jobs.

Construction
Customer Service
Customer Relations
Data Entry
Maintenance
etc...

There is bound to be a tolerable entry level job for each. For me it was construction

Just the wording of "could never bring myself down to retail"... but I understand your meaning.

Is there really such variety for people starting out? As a 14 or 15 year old and with zero experience, offices don't even take a second glance at you. Even Co-op refused to hire me solely because I was under 16, and that's just a service job.

Without being an apprentice (or at least having some knowledge of how to do things), it's generally not possible to become involved in trades.

In my opinion, you were an exception, not the norm. :)

i have to agree with you there. it's incredibly rare to get anything better than retail your first or second try. even while you are in college, your highest level of education is STILL high school; getting an office job, well, you have to be either really talented or lucky.

No I think you just agreed with me.. :D Because I was meaning that you don't have to put up with a job you don't like. I don't mind retail if the atmosphere is right, but I've had jobs where the boss was a complete psycho, and I had saved up the money I needed so I quit. I'm not going to start off my adult life being miserable if I don't have to. XD
