Greetings. I'm tired. But that's okay, because it's Friday, I'm in Cedar Falls, and for once, I have absolutely nothing to do all day! Ohhh, it feels so good. Of course, I'm up nonetheless. 10:25 on a day with nothing to do, and I'm up. I had to fight to sleep past 10:00. What is happening to me??? I'm becoming. . . a morning person??? Jesus, lock the doors now, take the Kool Aid, it's all over. My image as a left-handed percussionist night owl is finally crashing down around me. I'm morphing into. . . a left-leaning producer morning person. . . oooh, **shudder**. Good thing I have a week and a half off to set things right around here.
I always tend to remember August 12. (I remember all the other days of the year too, just this one has some resonance to it.) It was six years ago that I went to the State Fair and got to meet Al Gore, the day that sort of ingrained "She's So High" into my nostalgic consciousness, for better or worse. And it was four years ago, in a trip commemorating that State Fair excursion, that I went to the World's Largest Ball Of Twine (Made By One Man) up in Darwin (Minnesota). That was a weird trip; we'd gone up there just to see the Twine Ball, but ended up getting there for their annual Twine Ball Days celebration. The best part about that moniker was, it lasted one day. August 12, 2001. Twine Ball Days. Ladies and gentlemen, the brilliance of rural Minnesota. And they make fun of Iowans for their buffoonery; I tell you, we could warsh circles around them any day of the week.
As I was heading on a trip to Iowa last night, I decided to create another mix CD. This makes four I've made over the Summer, which is a lot by my current standards. This one was kind of different, because I culled it almost entirely from the extensive collection of Justin's and Rob's CDs I imported onto my laptop last month. I realize that my profession sort of calls for more responsible behavior when it comes to downloading/importing stuff, but I also realize that I don't care. Music is meant to be heard, and not necessarily meant to be purchased. I'll go on record stating that (or CD); and in fact, I just did! Man, I love the power of online blogging! Anyway, this means I got to put on a bunch of stuff I've never put on a mix before, which is good, because I tend to use the same guys over and over again and it gets monotonous sometimes. Of course, I also used some of my own CDs, don't any of you go thinking I didn't own The Joshua Tree or London Calling before last month or anything, that would be sacrelige. At any rate, here it be. Humbly submitting:
