's been six months since I started writing fanfiction, so I'm posting on... livejournal? Yeah. That makes sense! Right! Of course!

Hmm. 90,000 words in six months. Hard to tell if that's good or bad or merely irrelevant. Still, more than I've ever written before, really, so that makes me feel quite glowy.

All right, all right, bragging aside there was another point to this post. I was just re-reading a duology. And. You have to read it, too.

I know I've said this before to
mintineko and
filialpiety, but seriously. Read it. As soon. As you can. I'm using. Excessive punctuation. That's how. Good it is.

The books are collectively called The Sarantine Mosaic. First volume is Sailing to Sarantium and second is Lord of Emperors. It's historical fiction/fantasy, heavily based off Byzantium, obviously, and utterly amazing. Guy Gavriel Kay is the author, and his style is just gorgeous. Also these books made me cry, not only the first time but ON RE-READING. Books don't generally make me cry at all, and certainly not when I already know what's coming. Thus I know that these are good ones. Or at least incredibly well-written ones.

So yeah. If you haven't already, read 'em.

In other bookish news, I didn't like Havemercy by
ladyjaida as much as I thought I would, but it's still decent semi-steampunkish fantasy. Not mindblowing, though. :( So yeah. Really, I'd rather read her fanfiction. Stupid cowriters. (But there are big metal dragons!)

Also, The Crystal Cave and sequels are supposed to be friggin' classics, yes? So why haven't I gotten into them 'til now? The universe is against me, I tell you.

Voltaire too, dammit. -snrk- Eh. I always get him confused with Dante anyway, gods know why. So no worries. Ta.

the sarantine mosaic, havemercy, recommended
