my dear ladies...

merry christmas to you all...

so i didn't bring the game with me this trip cause i knew i was going to be back. (my apologies)
i do, however, have a back up! (ah ha! am i sneaky or what?!) unfortunately, i'm not going to respond to this right away cause i need time to think about it. which i'm sure will be true for some of you as well.

here goes:

What would I like less of in 2005? (You can name as many things as you wish but then pick one. Be specific - you might start by writing "less stress" and then drill down to "less fighting with my boss.")

What would I like more of in 2005? (Now it may be harder to focus on ONE and ONLY one quality, relationship, feeling, or action.. if you need to, write a fat list now and come back tomorrow and edit it down to one.)

What practices will help me learn how to have less of ______ and more of _______? (Practices are repetitive actions that shape us and enable us to learn. We practice the cello and chess and we practice letting go and asking for help. For example, if I wanted less fighting with my boss in 2005, my practices might be to read Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work & in Life, One Conversation at a Time by Susan Scott; to inhale for a count of five and exhale for a count of ten before a meeting with said boss; and to get some coaching around the relationship.)

When will I practices these practices? Where? For how long? (Small and specific is the only way this works. When my Dad was diagnosed with cancer, I decided to write 30 minutes every day beginning the first day of his chemo. I wrote on my computer calendar everyday for six months “30 minutes novel.” I must check it off each day or it gets carried to the next day, where it taunts me. While writing, I listen to a piece of music that is 30 minutes long so I’m precise in keeping my commitment (no fuzzy math). If I’m not very precise in naming a practice, I find myself indulging in strange loops of circular thinking in the moment of blowing a practice off - like, "Not writing today is okay because Dad’s tumor markers are down.")

just so you know, i found these at the comfortqueen.com inner organizer. great site. been there for years. hope it makes you think as much as it's making me think... :)

love,
s
