on saturday, Joe and i went to game one of the raptors playoff series against the new jersey nets. for those who don't know, that it the team Vince Carter has played on for the last few years. he left toronto 3 or 4 years ago because he was unhappy here.....he had played here for 6 seasons. apparently no one told toronto fans that sometimes people get traded.

every time he touched the ball there was a thunder of boos. Joe and i would just keep watching the game, occasionally giving a little smile to one another, at one point Joe said, "we have such an inferiority complex."

i saw the press conference after the game and it was the most painful thing i've ever seen. first interviewer - "so, the booing, um tell us about that." interviewer after interviewer the same shit. Vince over and over "this is the playoffs i just wanna play the best i can, etc." at one point simply said, "it was 4 years ago...let's get over it." but still the 4th interviewer who's been listening to all this, "so was the booing as loud as you expected, um, was it quieter, or um ah, louder than you thought?"

i had wondered a bit at comments i have recieved in the past from a few people saying, when they find out i like basketball, or sports in general, that i must be dumb. an ape-minded beer drinker. i had never cared about all the shit, i just love the game. there's something magical when someone gets in a groove and can make shot after shot from 25 feet away without even moving the mesh of the basket.

but i know, after all this, that its always just par for the course. Graham went to a show last friday because he loved the band and the energy of live shows, but was thrown off by the meat heads in the mosh pit who want to hurt as many people as they can and prove they are the toughest. a little known secret, is that a mosh pit can actually be a place of comradery. when someone falls everyone in the viscinity stops and picks that person up. now this is rare of course, but i have experienced it and it's a beautiful thing.

it will always be, if you like heavy music than you're childish and idiotic. if you like golf than you're boring as shit. but the person who makes the automatic judgement is no better than the person who promotes the stereotype.
