"Alright, let's call it a day folks," Var said. They'd already been working two and a half horvas longer than they had originally planned, and only on Var's insistence that they put in some extra work. Bes gave a relieved sigh along with a genial smile.
"Finally!" Bes said, "Almost thought you'd work us past 19 again." A couple of workas ago, Var had insisted they push extra hard on the early stages of the project. If he wasn't such a nice Supporter, very few would be willing to work so long. But, everyone bought into helping Var deliver a project that would exceed expectations. Partly because it would help them out, but also because Var was one of the few Supporters that lived and breathed the Giver ways. If any of them was in line to become Chief Supporter, it was going to be Var.
"Who's in on the pool? I am desperate for faroots," Cor said with alacrity. "We deserve it, after all the work we've put in. And, no, Var, you don't get to reserve out. I know you would work until lanon, if you thought you could get away with it." Cor gave Var a firm slap on the back with an unwavering grin on his face.
The murmurs in the room made it clear that most of the team was keen to get in on the pool. Var couldn't go against the group. He smiled and raised his hand, as the room began chanting, "Fa-roots! Fa-roots! Fa-roots!"
"Let's go," Var declared with feigned resistance, "But no maxing out. We still have a lot of work ahead, so let's save the big spending for the end of the project." The lesson he wanted to convey was not to give it all, all of the time; You needed to give carefully, in these times of scarcity.
