Taste the pain

After 2 hours and 39 minutes of walking, my legs were not happy. Bay to Breakers is always a worthwhile event to go to, but I was getting a hard lesson on why it’s good to train before such a challenge.

There were benefits to walking this year’s race. For one, I was able to spend more time in the thick of the crowd, rather than trying to speed by all of it. The magnitude of attendance is clearly marked by the countless costumes, runners, and party floats. While I question the wisdom of those that were getting blindly drunk, I was glad that, as always, the most egregious acts were uncivil or rude at worst (and managing to avoid violence or outwardly harmful activities). I haven’t a way to describe this unique occasion, except to say that I’ll be there next year.

くろさわ あきらさまは すごい です。I have yet to see an Akira Kurosawa film that did not greatly impress me. Seven Samurai (七人の侍), Throne of Blood, and Rashomon (羅生門) were masterfully done. The patience and effort put into each film is demonstrated in every scene. With that in mind, I trusted that Ran (乱; pronounced “rah-n”) would not fail to entertain. As an adaptation to Shakespeare’s King Lear, it executes the tragedy in an epic way. It amuses me that I had once scoffed at this film (in my younger years).

1 week until Ladytron. (来週にレーディトランです。)
