For those of you who do not yet know...
...I have decided to take a leave of absence this semester, effective immediately. I am scheduled to return next fall, but we'll see how that goes.
Anyone who's observed me closely at all knows I haven't been happy at school this semester, nor have I been doing particularly well. Harvard will still be here when I get back, and I don't want to waste one of my precious eight semesters here being unhappy and not focusing on my schoolwork. I came here to learn and to do well, and since I'm in a position to do neither of those things, it doesn't make sense for me to go througuh the motions of attending classes while longing to leave. A lot of thought went into this decision, but it feels right to me, and I'm very happy with it.
I'm worried about going home, and living with my family will bring its own challenges that are in many ways more difficult than anything university directs at me. I won't have freedom of mobility anymore, something I will miss very very much; however, trading that off against a mediocre semester with mediocre grades, I'll take having to duke it out every time I want to leave the house, because at least arguments don't go on my law school application.
