she fell before him.
her god among men.
her glowing king.
her savior, unknown.
she was unworthy of his gaze.
"i need you."
holding fast to what she still had left in the world:
her hands tightened into fists,
her eyes closed against the light.
her nails tore tiny crescents in her palms.
wounds that would never heal.
she ached for something to soothe her soul:
every lie she had ever believed.
every insult she had ever taken to heart.

she begged for a beginning to her end.
