Well, went to my very first Junefaire. The remaining family didn't want to go down with me, so I just removed the back seats of the van and decided to live out of it for the weekend. Supposedly the old site they used was much better than the one they are using now (execpt the old site was all uphill). So....Junefaire is a large demo for the Barony of Dragon's Laire (Like Aquaterra's Ursalmas...but outside).
So, much like Clinton War, Junefaire has a large "pirate" population (I officially hate Disney now). The large contingency of 20 somethings in their medievalesque outfits look more like a motley group of LARPers than SCAers. And I remember my beginnings in the SCA...so, I'll take them with a pinch of salt.
I was quite happy with the fact that the Rapier portion was given the same space and billing as the heavies (we didn't have to clear out for them or have to wait for them...we had our own area!!!) And there was much fighting! From 9 to around 5 only interrupted by court and much needed water/food breaks. Had a lot of good fights and I was actually not too bad ( I can only imagine how much better I might have been if I had the rig I want instead of using the one I've got for now)
Had enough of us White Scarves around to actually have a meeting. So, since Luther wasn't around I did my bit as Junior Scarf and brought out the Random Bag of Fun. It was at that point I realized that I haven't really been south of the Border that much since becoming a White Scarf. Need to remedy that. But back to the meeting....oh good Lord...sadly it is like EVERY meeting I've ever been to in my life, it gets off track easily, there is much bitching and whining and little actually gets accomplished. It's at times like these I can really get behind Dictatorial rule...you may not like it...but shit gets done.
So, most of the people I knew took off early (they were only daytripping) and once again I get to realize how few people I know south of the border. Luckily I hooked up with
loopyzany and
sillyass and hung out with them (making fun of the Belly Bunnies at the "Keep"). The best part being when the drummers went into a Techno beat with a banjo playing accompaniment, the only thing that was missing to make it a total mish mosh was a bagpipe.
So, I was going to do some fighting on Sunday...but when I woke up, it was overcast and I just wasn't in the mood to get changed and drag my old bones to the field (that and most of the better fighters came Saturday and wouldn't be coming out again Sunday). So, screw it. I bail. Head over to
alessandra_dm and
apollo_f1's house for a little visit and to pick up my daughters bow I bought on Ebay. Then off for home. Beat most of the traffic so all in all it was probably a good idea to bail early.
I'm still tired from a whole day of fighting, but I'm really glad that I actually could do the whole day AND my arm didn't hurt afterwards. Maybe I've got this tennis elbow thing licked.
Yah, I've got to go South more often...and once again...improve my networking skills.
