Dansecombe Academy...

So, the wife and I went up to Dansecombe Academy this weekend and took a few classes. In all actuality we only took classes on the Sunday. I took a leather working class (mostly to find out how to wax harden leather) and she took a haversack construction and mongol/viking hat making class.

So we left 11 ish on Saturday and drove up to Summerland. Since we had no classes on Saturday we basically were going to have a night to ourselves without kids (a nice change). Drop by the site (which is literally a stone's throw from the motel) and did a little hello meet and greet with the locals we knew. The wife got to see the results of one of the glass bead making class....and now I think she's hooked.

So, then we decided dinner and a movie! Off to Penticton! It's a cute little town...would be interesting to check it out one day. Went a saw IRONMAN in the little tiny local theatre. OMG I so remember theatres like this from my teenage years. Lining up outside, old theatre cut in two to make it a "multiplex" (hahahahaha) and tiny screens with a crappy sound system...oh and the classic...sticky floors. I think the Silvercity theatres have spoiled me. Then after the movie some dinner at a Greek restaurant. It's food was ok...but considering all the local awards it had...I've had better.

It was still nice to have a night with just the wife.

So, wax hardening....is easy. Heat up beeswax (250-275 F), cut leather, dye (if needed) and do any stitching necessary. Then immerse in wax. When it sounds like it's frying you're done. Remove, drain, pause...wipe off excess....wait till it cools enough to touch...shape. Let cool...done. Assemble as needed (rivets etc). Stupidly easy. So, quick and dirty demi gauntlet done
