Marx wasn't as smart as he thought he was

Karl that is, take one of his more famous (and more philosophical) quotes. "Religion is the opiate of the masses." True, religion can be used to control the poor man, giving him a final goal that makes his endless days of toil seem to have a purpose. What Marx seems to have forgotten is that the rich and the elite also practice some kind of religion. He also forgot that it is the opiate of neither, there are men, rich, poor, or elite, who do not worship. So, if we really look at Marx, what he's really saying is "Religion is one among many opiates used by man", which isn't very profound at all.
