What is it?
Perfect righteousness - an attribute of God
Definitive sanctification - an attribute of Jesus
(atonement; sacrifice - making us holy)
So offer yourself as slaves to righteousness, leading to holiness - 1 Pet 15
Why is it so important then?
It’s God’s desire for our lives:
Eph. 5: blameless, cleansed
It makes sense for now in terms of where we are headed,
looking ahead to the new order: Rev 21:1-4
It means we lead by example in the power of the Holy Spirit: Matt 28
How do we grow in holiness?
God works & we work to desire His will & act in His way
... to fulfil His good purpose: Phil 2
Holy Spirit at work in us (through sanctifying work)
Therefore, in view of God’s mercy... (Romans 12,
THIS is the actual kicker & cornerstone
- because of what God has done for us, what He has taken away...)
By meditating on the Word
Delighting in God
Praying on all occasions
Giving thanks
Spurring one another on
(Psalm 1; Eph 6:8; Eph 5:19; Heb 10: 24)
