I finally have some time and energy to tell the story.

Baby Zach was born August 31st at 8:49 pm, 3 hrs. and 11 minutes too early to share his daddy's birthday. :) He was 6 lbs. 1 oz. and 19 inches. Learning to breast feeding is going a little slowly, but he's really starting to catch on.

My mom and I went in for my doctor appointment at 9 am on Friday. My wonderful doctor was finally back from vacation so I got to have my exam from him. He said he would induce me that day no matter what because I was hanging between 4 and 5 centimeters dilation and things were just getting ridiculous. As it turned out, my exam revealed that I was already 5 cm, so technically in active labor anyway.

We arrived at the hospital at 10 am and Dr. Keeler broke my water at 11 am (which I'm considering the beginning of labor). I labored for about 7 hrs. drug free until the contractions became unbearable. I took some narcotics (nubaine, I believe) through and IV for two more hours of intense and excruciating contractions. At this point I had made it to 7 centimeters but Zach's head was so low that he was practically crowning. I couldn't handle the pain anymore and got an epidural. 25 minutes later I was 10 cm and he was 1/2 inch from crowning. I pushed for about 20 minutes and Zach was born. Johnny cut the cord and life is beautiful.

Johnny was the hero of the day. I could not have made it through those 3 hours of really excruciating labor without him. It was also wonderful to have my mom to help. I had a hand to squeeze on both sides. No, I did not cuss. No, I did not tell Johnny I hated him. In fact, the only time I snapped at him at all was when he leaned on my leg during a contraction.

Zach is perfect and so if my life. I'm so glad he came on the day he did, because we got to have Dr. Awesome (a.k.a. Keeler) deliver him.

Praise God for this beautiful new baby boy.
