Well now. It's been quite some time, hasn't it?
I do apologise if I've been somewhat neglectful in my social obligations, but I've been otherwise preoccupied with a...certain project of mine. I've been hesitant to speak of it at all as it first was little more than a passing whim of mine - one I never truly believed would come to fruition.
But to much wonder...it actually has.
To those of you who know me personally, you know that am an author - and that I have been one ever since I was nineteen years old and a gracious editor took a chance on me and published my first work despite my inexperience and naivety. Now...while I have no intention of giving up writing - to do so feels like a betrayal of that lovely editor who granted me entry into the world of writing - I must admit that I am not nearly as productive as I was when I lived in England.
Regardless of the reason for my decline in fervor, instead of wasting away in my study pretending to myself that I'm simply preparing myself for my next work...I've decided to traverse unknown ground and try something new.
A bookshop.
As I mention earlier, it has always been a silly little dream of mine - something that would be lovely if it were true, but never really expected to happen. Yet. Sometime back, a used bookshop that I frequented just...fell into my hands as it were. The owner was an amiable man with a slightly worrying penchant for harlequin figures, but the historical section I found was second to none in Liberty. My constant visits and silence concerning his obsession apparently must have endeared me to the old fellow, for he expressed interest in me taking the reins of the shop as he was to retire and he fully intended on fulfilling his life ambition of joining the Moscow circus and become a legend like Oleg Popov.
It took a bit of convincing for me to even consider the idea - as I wasn't entirely sure how serious to take someone who admitted to always desiring to be a Russian clown - but I caved in the end with his...
unique persuasion tactics.
So, now I have bookshop on my hands. After much work and cleansing of certain decorative elements, it will finally be open.
Whatever happens, I do believe it will prove to be interesting.
{ooc: SO. Bookshop thread will be up (relatively) soon! It'll be a group thread with a unique replying format just to let you all know~}
