Blinking at the girl in orange and black, Rem felt even more annoyed at how she was being treated but was mature enough to keep silent. Honestly, just because she didn't look like them didn't mean she didn't have any feelings. She may not be aware of the customs of humans, but she was sure that even they knew enough to be polite. Then again, maybe they were like shinigami in the sense that there were some (like her) that followed common courtesy, and others (like, say, Ryuuk) that didn't.
Deciding that she should make it clear that she, unlike them, was polite, Rem answered the girl's question.
"A friend asked me to watch over a human," Rem answered simply. And, before one of them could question her, she added, "And don't worry - I don't intend on doing anything to her."
As the girl continued asking and answering questions, Rem blinked at her last remark. So the girl was a shinigami too? Rem hadn't known there were shinigami who could look human. Perhaps once lived for a certain amount of years, they gained a human appearance? But, again, Rem hadn't ever heard of anything like that. Remaining silent, she quietly listened in on the conversation.
