http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/05/04/cash-revenue.html Here we go again, the government makes a change and people get up in arms and complain like it's the end of the world.
Only 1% of people pay cash at government offices. 1%!! How can there be so many of you that are complaining about this when you're not even part of this 1%?
First of all, look at it this way: If you paid in cash, that would mean that the government would have to pay somebody (at a top dollar cushy government rate) to deliver that cash to the bank. PLUS consider the idea that not everybody is trust worthy in this world and it'd be easier for someone to steal your cash, as opposed to a cheque written to the Receiver General of Canada (Write a check to them and try and cash it and see how quick the bank stops that.)
This is a matter of practicality, saving you the tax payer money. The fact that you can pay your taxes at any number of places outside of a government office should give you no reason to bitch.
And if anything, this is clearing the way for electronic payment methods at government offices like with Interac or Credit Cards, which if you ask me is about time.
It is the 21st century, and honestly physical money is such an outdated concept.
