[04: video] - I know you said he's just a dog astray

Dec 03, 2011 21:11

[The impact with the ground triggers the PCD's on button and the video flicks on. The camera has landed against a rock or something, giving it a skewed view of the sky, of skeletal trees and grey clouds. There's movement though, against the trees. A familiar figure, usually careless and flippant, with a pet name and some irritating compliment on ( Read more... )

[It takes a few minutes for Thomas to find where the question was coming from, where the PCD has fallen. The tree limb moves away, and it's probably a hint just how little he feels like his usual self that the question doesn't get much innuendo from Thomas. He just gives Jack a curt smile.]

Only if you want a workout.

Depends on the workout. Guns or ...well, more fun guns?

[That makes Thomas laugh, amused despite himself before he raises the saber to Jack in an insolent little salute] How about something a little more old-fashioned.

Swords, then? I'll take it, though I can't promise I'll be terribly good.

[With a grin, Thomas gestures to the multitude of tree limbs that have already succumbed to the saber.] There's always practice swords, darling. Don't let the whole stick look fool you.

Right, see you soon then, handsome.

[With a smirk, Thomas settles by the foot of a tree to wait. Still, his hands aren't idle. He produces a whetstone and a rag out of his pocket and begins to maintain the edge on the saber, then sets to working on the kukri, working the edge of the long-neglected bent-bladed knife back to something resembling true.

[Soon enough, Jack arrives, having picked up a branch along the way. He settles in to watch Thomas with interest until he's done. Guns and knives are more his style of weapon, he's never had much opportunity to use a sword.]

[Thomas looks up with a smirking grin as Jack approaches, and he takes a few more seconds to finish honing at the kukri's edge before he pockets the whetstone and sights along the blade.]

Not really a swordsman? I would never have guessed, sweetheart.

[He pats his pocket, in which the Webley is nice and safe, smirking right back.] Not much use for swords in the 51st century, handsome, even on Boe. Good with a gun and knives, but never really got the chance to try my hand at an actual sword.

[That makes Thomas laugh, warm and rich and almost actually relaxed. Almost.] Yeah well, the supernatural set tends to lag behind the times. I'm pretty sure some of them still think gunpowder's a fad.

[Thomas sets aside the kukri and picks up a long, straight stick from next to him and offers Jack a jaunty salute with it before sliding into a ready position. More of a fencer's posture than a real fight but he was willing to start easy.] Fifty-first century, huh?

That's okay, swords give you a bit of style, I think.

[Jack salutes back a little clumsily, but takes up the ready position as well.]

Born and raised, yep.

[He keeps the move slow, moving with human reflexes at a human pace, and advances on Jack, the stick held lightly in his hand.] Oh? Saying I don't have enough style as it is?

[And a laugh as he feigns to strike at Jack's stick practice sword] Think that makes me a cradle-robber.

I'm just saying you don't have a coat that makes you look half as good as mine does, darling. [Have a cheeky grin and a wink, and he's parrying (or attempting to) Thomas' strike.]

It makes Ianto one, too, then. [A beat.] Should be the other way round, though, really.

Oh? [Thomas stumbles at the mention of the coat but rolls with the misstep, and Jack's attempted parry lands a glancing blow on his shoulder.]

I'm not a big fan of coats. [a smirk.] They always seem to get in the way of being naked.
