I just donated to the Obama campaign. I highly urge you to do as well. They are trying to get a big funding surge by the end of this week as they'll be dedicating this last chunk of money to campaign in vital states. One of Obama's biggest advantages is the amount of money he has access to, and his networking, especially online. Even if you can ( Read more... )

I have seen his voting record and how often he has voted in favor of an "unpopular" bill and then once it looks like the bill would be passed, he immediatly reverses his vote so he officially he voted "against" the bill.

His involvement in a radical church (which he would still be attending if there hadn't been a scandal). And I have a feeling that the "Faith Based Initiative" program will be not just continued, but expanded when he is office.

Plus, I live in Illinois and have seen the Chicago Democratic Politican "clique" that he is part of.

I guess my biggest fear is that Obama will do to America what Gov. Blagojevich has done to Illinois.

Story time: A few years ago, Illinois was under one of the most corrupt governors ever in George Ryan. A young Democratic politican promised "Change" and to put an end to the corrupt status quo. He was elected by a landslide and has done everything to be even more corrupt and destructive to Illinois than Ryan was.
There are just so many similarities between the two and the fact that they are from the same "clique" frightens me to a degree.

So no, I don't endorse either of the candidates. If I do vote it will be a write in "None of the Above"

McCheney and Alaskian Bush are pretty awful, but really, there are so many people who control the government, it really doesn't matter who the president is. There are so many handlers, advisors, constituents, special interests, corporate investors, wall street bigwigs who are really in charge of the government that the president is pretty much just a figure-head for the most part. If they don't play along with the status quo, the establishment turns on them and renders them impotent.

I don't know anything about Chicago politics, but guilt by association doesn't seem very valid. I don't see any reason to believe that faith based initiatives would be expanded under Obama, given how he has talked about religion.

I wholly disagree with your assertion that it doesn't matter who the president is. How can you even make such a claim? Do you really think the world would look like it does today if Al Gore had not been cheated out of winning in 2000? The president makes an immeasurable difference. True, George Bush may not have personally had his hands in every problem under his administration, but how many might have been avoided or mitigated with a different sort of leader? The establishment you speak of do adapt to the president; do you really mean to say Bill Clinton was as controlled by oil lobbyists as Bush is? To me, this attitude, that it doesn't matter who you vote for, is simply a defeatist one, and grossly irresponsible for a citizen in a republic. If you don't like the two candidates, at least find a party you feel represents you and vote for them. Not voting or voting for "none of the above" does absolutely nothing to stop the wrong people from running this country. Maybe it is a choice of evils to someone like you (and for the record, I think the choice is blindingly clear in this election), but the lesser of two evils is still the lesser.

So is McCain a totally different person and less corrupt than Bush? I mean that is guilt by association as well isn't it?

To me it isn't guilt by association, its more a case of "Birds of a feather". And Obama and Blagojevich have helped and supported each other in the past, so no its not an unfounded fear.

To me the president is just a different path in the same direction. Sure there will be differences, but the destination will always be the same. Doing whatever the upper 5% of the country want in one way or another.

And no, the world would not be the same place if Gore had won, but Gore DIDN'T win because exactly the things I talked about. Gore went against the flow, Obama is going with the flow. Even if Gore had won, it would have been a case where the establishment would have made him so impotent he would have been a failed 1 term president.

And no, Clinton wasn't hip deep in Oil money, but he was hip deep in almost every other kind of money and basically "sold" his power to anyone who could afford it.

And honestly, my vote doesn't matter in Illinois. The way the presidential elections work, when you vote, you aren't actually voting for who the president is going to be. You are voting for who your states Electorial College votes for in the "real" election that happens in January (feel free to look it up). Since Obama already has Illinois in the bag, it doesn't matter.

Obama has our 22 Electorial Votes already due to his Chicago ties. Even if the rest of the state votes for McCain, as long as he has Chicago, he'll get the state.

But in any case, I guess we can just agree to disagree on this one.
