Sixguns and Sorcery

As a mortal trapped in the Realm of Faerie, Sam Smith is forced to depend on magical devices for his own survival. Here are his favorite devices:

Enchanted Firearms: Sam Smith carries an enchanted pair of double-action .45 Colt Peacemakers with nickel plating and custom-fitted grips. Vivienne Underhill later makes him a 12-gauge shotgun and a Sharps buffalo rifle, both of which are capable of using magical and mundane ammunition.
These weapons have minor enchantments that make them nearly indestructible as well as resistant to any spells or environmental effects that can rust, corrode, or destroy material objects.

Magic Longsword: Sam acquires from the Green Knight an enchanted longsword that can slice through just about anything and cannot be broken except by the most powerful of magical artifacts, and although clumsy with the weapon at first, over time Sam learns how to use the enchanted blade and becomes an expert swordsman. Sam knows that his fencing skills will never be the equal of the Lords of Faerie, and for this reason would rather face them with firearms than swords and sorcery. Although this sword appears to be a reflection of Excalibur, its power pales before that of the One True Sword.

Faerie Compass: A gift from the talented Penny Farthing, this simple yet elegant brass compass shows the way through Faerie and has saved his life on a number of occasions; unfortunately, the compass tends to show Sam where he needs to go--not necessarily where he wants to go. By the same token, the compass always shows him the most direct route through Faerie--but not necessarily the most safe one...
(Note: I had the idea for this magical artifact long before watching the first Pirates of the Caribbean film. Such objects are quite common in classic faerie tales.)

Magic Bullets: Vivienne has created a number of special bullets and shotgun shells which Sam wears in two pairs of crossed bandoleers across his chest and around his waist. Not only can these bullets function in places where normal gunpowder refuses to work, but a small number of rounds have special abilities, such as bullets which can punch through nonmagical armor as though it did not exist, bullets which can turn corners, and other bizarre ammunition. However, Sam has only a limited number of bullets and uses his ammunition only when necessary, as Sam Smith must otherwise perform favors for Queen Vivienne in exchange for another load of bullets.

The Enchanted Duster: After his clothes are destroyed by the forces of time and entropy in the Trackless Desert, Penny Farthing creates a magic duster which can conceal any number of objects as long as they can fit in its pockets. Since each pocket has a potentially infinite amount of space, Sam can perform such minor miracles as hiding his enchanted longsword inside a convenient pocket or even concealing his Sharps buffalo rifle within one of the back pockets of his coat.
The enchanted duster also has a bewildering number of pockets which hold everything from folding knives and simple tools to balls of yarn, spools of thread, and other minor but useful objects, and all Sam has to do is imagine what he wants and it will be there for him. However, the magic duster cannot create magical objects or valuable items such as gold or jewels, but can store such items indefinitely if Sam puts them in the pockets, as anything placed within the pockets never ages or becomes subject to mold or decay.
The magic duster can also produce an unlimited supply of food such as wrapped sandwiches, bottles of beer, and fresh fruits and vegetables as well as a canteen that never runs out of fresh water.
Penny has also placed a number of enchantments upon the coat which protect it from the forces of time and entropy, and if damaged the magic duster can actually repair itself as long as some part of it is left in one piece. The magic duster also provides Sam with protection equal to a suit of brigantine armor, and although capable of turning aside a knife or dagger blow would offer him only limited protection against a direct strike from a sword or battle-axe.
The enchanted duster has a number of other powers, but Sam only becomes aware of them over time as Penny is secretly in love with him and has placed the enchantments on the garment to provide him with protection when Sam really needs them; for example, when Sam becomes lost in the Wood of Nightmares and is slowly bleeding to death, Penny uses her magic to send a letter stained with her tears to him. Using the emotional connection between them and the magic of her tears, the letter guides him out of the Forest, where Penny can use her magic to heal him.
