Rose and Thorn are the Crown Prince and Princess of House Thorn, the House of the Rose as well as the ruling house of the Court of Flowers among the Unseelie Sidhe. Symbolized by the heraldic device of a white rose with black leaves upon an emerald field, they are the twin offspring of King Aiglantine, the Willow King whose murder with the cursed sword known as Oblivion's Child triggered the Jewel Wars so many centuries ago. Fearing for their lives, the twins--who were but small children at the time of their father's murder--were spirited away from their home by Princess Vivienne of House Jasper and placed under the protection of her father, King Agate of Svartalfheim. Centuries later, Queen Bloodrose ascended to the throne of the Shadowlands and brought and end to the Jewel Wars; while Rose and Thorn were both declared regents of the Unseelie Court, neither Prince or Princess was elevated to the status of King or Queen, since Bloodrose believed both were suited to the position of regent... and it was rumored that the Autumn Queen could always hold out the Crown of the Unseelie Court as a reward for either of them, should one fall out of disfavor or rise to higher status than the other.
As fraternal twins, Rose and Thorn look very much alike. Each of the Unseelie Sidhe stands just over six feet in height, with Prince Thorn standing just an inch taller than his sibling.
Like the rest of the Daoine Sidhe, Rose and Thorne are the essence of physical perfection: both of them are lean and athletic in build, with Rose having a flawless hourglass figure which has been described as belonging to a Greek goddess descended to Earth, while Thorn has been described by female admirers as having the perfect physique of a Greek God made flesh. Both Rose and Thorn have flawless complexions like the finest white marble while their long raven-black hair shimmers with a faint oil-on-water iridescence like a raven's wing, and their physical beauty is so dazzling that the two of them have been compared to either angels descended to Earth or Gods from Mount Olympus. Like most Faerie Folk, their eyes are larger in proportion to their face than a human and have no visible whites, giving them a somewhat feral appearance; both Rose and Thorn have eyes of a brilliant emerald green, and such is their stunning beauty that even without the use of their glamour, humans are easily mesmerized by them.
Rose and Thorn are among the most powerful sorcerers of the Daoine Sidhe, and in addition to their innate powers of Glamour, the two of them are masters of Illusion, Elemental, and Transformation magic. While Rose has mastered the elements of Earth and Water, Thorn has mastered Fire and Air, and the two of the complement each other, making Rose and Thorn two of the most deadly combatants in Faerie. The two of them have also collected a number of magical artifacts over the centuries including objects of truly frightening power, and while Rose and Thorn abhor vulgar displays of power, the two of them understand there are times when those below them must be shown their place in the social hierarchy.
Rose and Thorn are masters of machiavellian politics, having grown up in the Jewel Courts of Svartalfheim and lived among the Goblin dukes and princes, and for this reason have come to view people as little more than pieces in a 'grand game' where they are played against each other. Those who earn their respect advance from 'playing pieces' to fellow players, and are either allies or opponents in the grand game; in either case, few people can be trusted, and most are expendable. Those who are not part of the grand game are little more than toys for their amusement, and are to be used and later discarded when they no longer amuse them.
Jaded and easily bored, Rose and Thorn are always looking for something (or someone) to challenge or amuse them; like cats with almost godlike powers, they are cruel, capricious, cunning, and mercurial in temperament. Although they hide behind the mask of the jaded dilettante, both Rose and Thorn have brilliant minds as well as a wicked sense of humor, a razor-edged wit, and a vicious sense of irony. Once their curiosity has been aroused, they can be frightening opponents--especially if their opponent intrigues them, since the two of them are always looking for some sort of challenge. The more the opponent challenges them, the more interested Rose and Thorn become--and the more obsessed they become with winning that challenge. On the other hand, like most Sidhe, Rose and Thorn will accept an honorable defeat as long as their opponent plays the game by the rules. As a final note, Rose and Thorn are both openly bisexual, having experimented with all manner of sexual orientations over the centuries; however, contrary to popular belief, although Rose and Thorn have engaged in sexual relations with the same partners, they have never had sex with each other, since such incestuous relationships are forbidden even among the Daoine Sidhe!
