Reverend Patterson unscrewed the two halves of the silver-plated cross, revealing it to be a polished steel dagger. With a triumphant cry of joy and exhilaration, the Reverend plunged the dagger into the Seal of Solomon, piercing the brazen vessel; with a deafening roar, the vessel burst asunder, hurling the Reverend a dozen feet away while ( Read more... )

If you page through the earlier entries, you will discover this is part of a dystopian contemporary fantasy series I've been writing entitled "Fixing a Hole," which I've been working on since about 2003. The series is a dark satire where holes open between Earth and Faerie... and magic flows through the portals, returning to modern Earth.
Overnight, one percent of the human race acquires the ability to work magic, whether it is the ability to cast spells, vampirism, lycanthropy, or minor magical talents; of that one percent, an even smaller percentage are major magicians... the people who suddenly become the heroes and villains in this strange new world.
As if people didn't have enough problems, with the return of magic to the world, the Earth sees the return of all the creatures of myth and legend, and the stories deal with what happens to the world when everything goes haywire.
The heroes in the stories are a group of science fiction fans who discover they are major magicians--and decide to fix the problems between the humans and the hordes of Faerie Folk who are returning to Earth.

I would love for "Fixing a Hole" to be a television series.
Each season would have a title and its own story arc. Season One, "Strange Magic" deals with the opening of the Holes and the arrival of the Faerie Folk... as well as the introduction of Our Heroes. It climaxes with a two-part episode entitled "Wet Spell" in which a simple rain spell almost destroys the Western United States, and Our Heroes have to deal with a very, very angry Egyptian Goddess who unless they stop her will wipe out Barstow!

Season Two, "Til All the World Dissolves" deals with the arrival of the Dark Faeries, who in the first season have been quietly gathering information about humanity. The vein of humor grows a bit darker, and Our Heroes have their introduction to Queen Bloodrose--whom you might recognize as the villain from "The Wasteland Saga."
The season climaxes with a two-part episode, "Black Friday" where the Unseelie combine magic and technology to create a computer program that unless stopped will literally destroy the Worldwide Web, allowing Queen Bloodrose to conquer the world without firing a shot!

Season Three is "The Purple Testament" and involves the invasion of Earth by Queen Bloodrose and the Unseelie Court. Having studied technology, Queen Vivian--the Clockwork Empress--has allied with Bloodrose under the condition that she conquer Earth with a minimum of bloodshed. The mid-season climax involves the theft of an iron meteorite from Griffith Park Observatory... and Bloodrose performing a grand ritual that summons twelve asteroids from their orbits, sending them plunging out of space toward the capital cities of each major nation on Earth!
To stop her, Our Heroes must travel to the Heart of Faerie and perform a quest to locate and bring back the four great Treasures of Faerie: the Sword, the Spear, the Grail, and the Shield. But in doing so, they set in motion events which will bring the Gods back to Earth, open the Gates of Heaven and Hell, and set in motion the End of the World...

Season Four is "Heaven Only Knows" where the Gates of Hell are opened and Our Heroes must journey to the Inferno to seal them. Queen Bloodrose volunteers to help them battle the Infernal, and although Our Heroes don't trust her, they allow her to come along--only to be betrayed at the last minute as Bloodrose seals the Gates of Dis behind them, trapping Our Heroes in Hell!
Rescued by a fallen Angel by the name of Shira (who has her own story arc through the series) Our Heroes return to Earth, save Balder the international rock star from being murdered by Loki, and prevent the Soul of the Black Plague from decimating the human race.

Season Five, "Than Curse the Darkness" is the Big Finish. In opening the gates between universes, Bloodrose has accidentally brought about the End of All Things. The Nameless Ones are returning, and Queen Nitocris has risen from the grave to prepare for the Great Harvest, in which the Nameless Ones will devour all intelligent life on Earth. All that stands between humanity and Oblivion are Our Heroes, who must unite Faerie and Human, Seelie and Unseelie, and even Heaven and Hell if the world is to survive!

Hell yes, I'm writing this!
