Because we are a race of people who likes to Compete. Icon contest, Fanfic awards, Vid contests. We like to see who is the best.

I personally enter because I like to promote. I know I will never win contests (even if I have :P) but I just like people to read my stuff, watch my vids.

I love getting the emails - comments are love - I just don't feel the need to have the highest count of them.
