How did we come to this....
This election was extremely hard for me, on several levels. I strongly disliked both candidates. No matter who won today, I feel no happiness, neither do I feel bitterness...just emptiness and I hope that we as Americans can start to focus now on how we're going to make things better.
But how have we come to be a nation that prevents the rights of any group of people - AGAIN? Did we learn nothing from the Civil Rights movement? Have we learned nothing from history? How could all 11 states pass an amendment crafted out of hate...I am ashamed for all of us.
And I'm ashamed that our differing views on the presidential election itself has turned us against one another...the "us versus them" mentality has turned us into monsters of human beings. That one vote for one president in one election can rip apart friendships and turn families and friends against one another. There were practically riots in my dorm last night. I am ashamed of all of us. If we can't get past crap like this, then we don't stand a chance as a nation REGARDLESS of who our president is.
Regardless of any of my personal opinions, I respect each and every person who exercised their right to vote yesterday.
