I already mentioned that I decided to take a sick day. This sick day actually started yesterday when I got off work. First, I got home and waited for my friend to bring his washer and dryer for me to use since he's currently not using it (long, side story that really isn't relevant). It's really quite nice of him and I super appreciate it and he delivered and installed them yesterday afternoon with the help of a friend. After that, another friend was going to put in the deadbolt for my front door that I bought at Lowe's. I should have known by the packaging (it was obviously taped back together with packaging tape) that there was going to be a problem. It was missing a very essential piece. Unfortunately, I didn't get that taken care of today during my sick day. Then, I went over to my friend's house to beat the game we've been playing for the past couple of weeks (Darksiders, which is an AWESOME game and I need to take some time to review some time, because we just loved it) while eating Burritos from Filibertos and drinking liter sized mugs of frosty Dr. Pepper. It was a great evening.
Then I came home and watched a couple episodes of Jonny Quest: The Real Adventures. I bought the season 1 volume 1 DVD set off of Amazon.com and it arrived yesterday. It's one of my closet fandoms. I don't really talk about it or admit it to anyone very much, but since not a lot of people read this, I feel like I'm safe. Hahah. Anyways, it's one of those feel good shows more because it takes you back to easier, less stressful times than it actually being any good. I mean, I AM grown up, and I do watch shows with better story lines and characters and what not, but I still love my Jonny Quest, I have the box set for the original 1960s show, as well.
But I digress...
I finally went to bed about 12:30 and 1, taking a shot of medicine (a single shot, only. I learned my lesson Sunday night about taking a double dose) and slept until 10:30. About that time I finally pulled myself out of bed, and got to getting my bathroom cleaned and organized. I seriously have been living with all of my stuff piled on the counter for the past week and a half. Now it's all put away and all the disgusting traces of the previous residents are wiped away. Seriously, they were disgusting. I pulled out one drawer to find it riddled with toe nail clippings. WTF, mate?!?!?!?!?
Then I took a break and made orange cranberry muffins in cake form (from a suggestion from a colleague via Facebook since I don't have muffin tins and I wasn't about to go out and buy some just for one little batch of muffins) and it turned out great. I had a couple slices of that with a cup of hot chocolate for brunch while doing crossword puzzles. It was a nice break. When I finally put the pencil down and got myself up off the couch I headed back upstairs to assemble my new dresser from IKEA.
I'd pretty much already chosen the one I'd wanted online based on what I needed and how much I was willing to pay. And since there was nothing else at the actual store that changed my mind, I went ahead and bought the MALM 6 drawer dresser. Putting it together was a bigger job than I'd planned on. I seriously had to take a break to eat some dinner (Ramen, buttered bread, and apple juice; and more crossword puzzles!) before going back to it. However, just the complexity of putting it together proved that it was better and more stable than my old Walmart dresser. Also, the IKEA one is wider, longer, and deeper, giving me much more storage space than the last one. I couldn't believe how much room each drawer had as I was moving my clothes into it!
The only snafu was when I was counting out the parts to make sure I had them all. First of all, they put all the assembly hardware into one bag instead of having them pre-sorted. It's kind of a hassle and very frustrating and time consuming to have to count and separate all the pieces out yourself. I'd still do the counting if they were presorted, but presorting would have saved me the frustration that I ended up going through. You'll understand when I'm done.
So, after counting everything out, I find out I'm missing one screw, and that I probably can't live without this one screw. So, I go online and start investigating. At first, the best I can get is that if I copy down the part number, I can go back to the store and get a replacement there. Except, the nearest IKEA is an HOUR away. That's a long way to drive just for a screw. So, then I look up the number for the local IKEA, except it isn't for the local IKEA, it's some generic customer service line and the lady tells me the same thing(the lady whose accent made it hard for me to understand her and BOY could I tell she was enthusiastic to be helping me *sarcasm mark*). Finally, I go investigating online some more, based on some of the comments made while I was on hold (which was for at least 15 minutes. I put my phone on speaker and played solitaire while I was waiting) and after opening the right page in Internet Explorer (because for some reason it's not working in Firefox, even though it claims to be Firefox compatible) I finally get the part ordered. I've avoided an hour drive, two hours round trip.
Shortly after that, my friend called and I was telling the whole ordeal to him....and then I found the f-ing missing part. I kid you not. The reason I couldn't find it was because it was stuck in another, completely different part. And if IKEA had only PRESORTED the parts, this would not have happened! (It was about this time I decided it was time for a break and dinner).
I finally came back and got it finished and put together and all my clothes in it. My wrists are tired and my palms are sore from screwing in al those screws...by hand. But I'm proud of my craftsmanship and despite my complaining here I will gladly shop at IKEA again and buy more stuff there. I think I'll wait a little while, though. My wrists need a rest and my palms need to heal.
I also did three loads of laundry, but unfortunately, I after the last load there was a puddle of water on the floor. So, now my friend is going to have to come back and take a look at it. I set up my vaporizer to try to help me sleep well tonight (I'm only going to take a half dose of medicine. It's getting late and I'm feeling well enough that I don't feel like I need a full dose.) And that's it. I wrote in my journal. I feel accomplished. Very accomplished. And I really do like my new dresser. They make great products, they just need to work on their customer service. *rolls eyes*
And that was my day. Oh, and I went out and checked my mail at about 10:45. My new Sarah McLachlan CD came in. I've been slowly recollecting her CDs since my CDs got stolen out of my car 5 or 6 years ago. I still have a long ways to go, but this purchase actually added 2 of her CDs back into my collection. It's the Fumbling Towards Ecstasy Legendary Edition that also includes The Freedom Sessions and a DVD of her singing the FTE songs live. That means I now have 4 CDs of hers, not counting her Christmas CD, which I also have. Or maybe I have 5 not counting her Christmas CD? I think I also purchased an anthology of hers. Oh well, doesn't really matter. And once again, irrelevant.
Okay, NOW that was my day. Here's to hoping that my laundry is done so I can put the sheets back on my bed and get to sleep. Otherwise, it'll be some more Jonny Quest and a little grading until they ARE done.
