Title: Not Every Man Lives - part 1
Pairing: Jack/Jack
Rating: PG-13 - Pre-Slash
Warning: Post ‘Captain Jack Harkness’, he couldn’t leave Captain Jack to die in the 40’s. Only short 500ish words, un-betaed. Not sure whether I’m going to continue it, maybe, maybe not.
Jack stood bathed in the blue white light of the open rift, looking at the man whose name he’d taken, the beautiful man whose life would end the next day.
Jack looked up and met the other mans eyes. Unsmiling, he held out his hand. Would he take it, or would he stay where he was and die a hero, in a hail of bullets and fire the following morning.
The dark haired Captain stood in the middle of the Dance Hall, simply looking at him. His eyes glistened with a fearsome intensity; he took Jack’s hand and stepped through the rift.
“Who the fuck’s that”
Still holding Captain Harkness’s hand Jack looked daggers at Owen
“Why the fuck are you bleeding all over the floor? Ianto will have to clean it all up.”
“Ianto fucking shot me,” Owen wined.
Jack grinned, and then burst out laughing.
“Conference room in five minutes kids,” Jack turned, smiling to Harkness and led him towards the glass walled conference room.
As he did so he watched the other man taking in everything they walked past.
“Sit down,” Jack said softly.
“This is, incredible,” big blue eyes met Jack’s, as for a few seconds they stopped looking round.
He pulled up a chair, and sat facing the dark haired man, not certain where to start.
“This is the future,” he paused, looking at the other man, watching him as he took it in. Looks of confusion, fear and numerous other emotions flitted across the dark haired man’s face.
“I’ll have a lot to learn then,” he replied after what seemed like an eternity of silence.
“There’s one other thing, for the time being anyway,” Jack hesitated, for one rare moment unsure how to continue. There was only one way he thought, just go for it.
“I took your name, you were killed in action and I became Captain Jack Harkness”
Jack looked at the man’s shock filled eyes. What had he done, bringing him through to the future for his own selfish reasons, all because of some indefinable attraction he felt towards the dark haired Captain. His eyes watered, but he couldn’t look away. Something held him there, an apology, regret, guilt, he didn’t know, all he could do was try to prevent himself from showing as many emotions as he felt.
Harkness stood, pushing his chair away, and walked over to the glass wall. He stood hands in pockets, looking down at the large open floor of the Hub below.
He turned and faced Jack.
“You saved my life, but you’ve still got my name,” he hesitated, voice cracking, with overwhelming emotions. “It’s gonna get complicated,” the faintest hint of a smile crossed his features.
Tosh, Owen and Gwen, burst into the room, closely followed by Ianto who placed the try of coffee he was carrying in the middle of the table.
Jack, looked up at the other man with a pointed look and a smile. Turning to his now seated team, he decided there was no easy way to put what Tosh and Harkness both knew he’d have to say.
“Allright, I’d like you all to meet Captain Jack Harkness.”
