The Penitent Magdalen is just about my favourite painting in the world. When I went to the Met, I came round a corner and it stopped me dead in my tracks. I'm pretty sure I stood there for a solid 15 minutes, just staring at it.

That's just beautiful! I can see why you'd just stop dead in your tracks to take it all in. Some things in life just do that.

Wow, Google informs me that everyone and their brother painted something called "The Penitent Magdalen". I mean the one by Georges de la Tour.

I'm really *really* glad you shared that image, it's gorgeous.

And yes, there are a million and a half Penitent Magdalene's.

She was sort of busy lady. But the church loves her. The way that some products use people for ad's and then use the disclaimer "results not typical", that's what my girl Mary Magdalene is for the Catholics.
