I am curious about 'ships.  I find it interesting how we get very invested in fake relationships on a television show, or pretend two characters are secretly in love, or wish so hard for a certain relationship to happen that we write stories about them.

This fascinates me because I  do it too, even while making fun of those who would fervently follow the fake KStew/RPatz PR machine that will end as soon as the movies are over.  Why do I care about this?  How is it I am any different than those who do believe Taylor Squared was more than a front?  I, who have written reams of paper's worth of stories about Spike and Xander, Ray and Fraser, Nicholas and Danny, not to mention the forest that I killed printing others' stories over the past 12 years?

For example, you all know I love the Booth/Bones relationship.  Well, surprise! They had sex finally.  Offscreen and in secret (as far as I can tell, only Angela knows).  I get why Hanson and Co. did it that way.  They can still delay the gratification of the hook-up while giving in to viewers who were all, "Oh, come ON already!"  But I want the gratification!  Or do I?

I have often believed that those who are totally against a certain 'ship can't truly articulate what their issue is.  Usually, it's something that they can't say in public, such as ," Well, as a total homophobe, the thought of Morgan/Reid makes me gag," so instead they say, "I don't see it," or, "Slash isn't my 'thing'"  Honies, slash can be anybody's thing if you let it.  Or instead of , "I think fat people are totally grotesque," they say, "Nicholas had a-may-zing chemistry with Deskjob/the Andes/Janine/Simon/any random villager that isn't Danny (because Danny is fat)."

I don't know why I do or don't like certain 'ships, but I think it bears considering.  If I dislike a certain 'ship, can I say (at least to myself) honestly why that is?  It may be relatively unimportant, but it may not.  Figuring this out may help my self-growth by uncovering layers of crap I just never dealt with.

So here's what I'm going to do.  I'm running out of content for this thing, because I think I'm boring.  Especially since I've all but dropped out of fandom.  But I don't want to stop using it, because I may become more interesting at some later time.

So I'm going to examine, closely and honestly, 'ships both real (in television show/movie terms) and fake.  I'm going to see what it is I like or don't like, and possibly figure some things out about it along the way.

No, it's not world peace, but we all have our hobbies.

Also, I want your help.  Comment with your favorite 'ships, "real" or imagined (no crossovers, please, I suck at that) and I will use those as my beginning template.  My posts in response may be brief, or may not provide any answers at all, but at least I'll be writing something.

Oh, also, also, I'm starting a week-long class on the DSM on Saturday, so probably nothing until after.  Okay, I think that's it.

shippy, where's my seeley booth?, fandom wang
