So, at the beginning of this month we were not expecting to move but here we are in our new little house and it is divine! It's a wee little house, smaller than our apartment. Actually every apartment we've rented since we moved to Denver 7 years ago has gotten smaller and smaller, starting at 900sf and now we're in 520sf, but it is the best square feet I could hope for. ;) We have a garage which is practically full to the brim. How in the world do we have so much stuff?? When I went to college I could fit all my belongings into my little Ford Escort. So, yeah, a house! We have a yard! We have a garden! Eloise has slides and a sandbox! We have a little dinner table that we can all sit around! At the apartment we had this horrid little setup where the table was really just Rusty's desk with books and computer and papers all over it and so at dinner Eloise sat in her chair, then I sat on an uncomfortable stool, then there was the dishwasher right there (or Uncle Steve as I liked to call it since he was joining us for dinner) and then Rusty who actually sat at the table. Here at the house we can all sit around the table like proper people (computers go in a drawer!) and eat together which makes me positively giddy, I tell you.
I didn't think we'd get to live in a house for another 6 or 7 years so I am so thrilled for this opportunity. Hopefully we can swing things for longer than just this one year lease, but whatever happens it will be a lovely year. Today we worked in the garden for a long time in the lovely, lovely sun. I hope to grow chard, and peas, and green beans, and tomatoes and zucchini, and flowers. There's already green onions in there which I've been adding to any recipe that will take them. I read today that growing a garden is like printing your own money. Hopefully!!
