Dear Harry Potter readers who also watch anime,
Though the Harry Potter series is not my cup of tea, fine. I have no qualms with you liking it and wanting to write fanfics about the characters of said book/movie series. It's a free world and I have no right to tell you what to read and what to write about. Which means I can't dictate what kind of genre, storyline or whatever you wish to include in your fanfic.
However.
I do have a right to complain about the way it's written. I may also call your ideas stupid and impossible. As much as that might sound meen or offensive. It's possible. I'm not claiming to be the best fanfic writer in the world. But I have my skills of deduction. I can tell if a story is pointless or headed there. Surely, you do not deny me this fact. Like I don't deny your rights of fanfic writing.
Now, we've gotten that out of the way. I can get to my point.
Fine. You like Harry Potter and want to write about the characters. You also like Anime and want to write about your favorite anime characters. You're free to do so. But is the freaking crossover really necessary? You know very well that it's close if not totally impossible (unless you make it into an AU, Take the anime characters out of their series or take the Harry Potter characters out of their environment and put them in the situation that you thought of yourself). For you to incorporate the storyline of an anime series with the storyline of the Harry Potter books, I think is pretty much pushing it too far. It just doesn't make any freaking sense whatsoever. We're talking about totally different timelines, totally different cultures and totally different people. Now, I know it may seem interesting to you to see them interact. I hate to burst your bubble, seriously. But I just don't see the point.
But fine. If you think it's fun. If you manage to pull off the story with a hard-work and research (and you're gonna need a LOT of both, If you're making something like this). I'll applaud you if you manage to keep the characters IC. But still, the idea of why you'd want to do this is completely lost on me.
Yours Truly,
Murasaki
PS. If you want to crossover HP with an anime - Pick One Anime At A Time. Please. It has a tendancy to become more confusing and stupid the more you cram more people in the story.
Dear Fanfic Writers In General,
You really want me to read your story? You can make sure that you don't start misspelling words in your summary. Alright, we're human. We make mistakes. Misspelling stuff is part of small errors people make. But once you start misspelling very simple words like SERVE and FORGOTTEN, You make me doubt the rest of the contents of your story. I start to think something is definitely wrong.
It is SERVE. Not SURVE.
It is FORGOTTEN not FROGOTTEN.
We said it a million times before and we'll say it again.
Spellcheck is your friend.
Bewildered,
Murasaki
Dear Rabid Slash/Romance Fic Writers,
Your OTP is not canon. It is not official. No matter how nice that may be. Stop telling us that character A is madly in love with character B just because you think they look hot together. I'm not stopping your ship. I've got ships myself. I like slash, I like writing for pairings. I wouldn't stop anyone from doing the same.
But I really don't think that's the main point of whatever your fandom is. No, Seto Kaiba does not in truth want to jump Yugi/Yami/Jonouchi.
Genjo Sanzo is not in love with Hakkai/Goku/Gojyo. Aya is not having hot sex with Ken/Omi/Youji. No, seriously. Those are the certain things we call fan speculation. Yes, we can dream. We have a right to fawn over the idea of them being together. But our word, our OTP is not official. It is not law.
Thank you.
Murasaki
