ummm... I had things I wanted to post about. I know I did. But now my brain is kind of fried.
It's been a long week at work- vacation season is incredibly stressful, everyone is behind, everyone is short tempered. Yesterday was very productive, though, and I have hopes that Monday will be as well. Also- I got to handle a couple of special projects, creating graphs and charts and such. So much fun!
Bubba got his first compliment today for good behavior in public from a stranger! I get compliments all the time on Monkey's manners, and how polite Pixie is, but rarely do I get any such kind words for Bubba. Not because he's bad, he's just more.... inconvenient. He's the one who is always underfoot, just a touch too loud, insisting on walking backwards, having to touch everything (or like today, lick everything). We've been working on all of that, with a LOT of repetition, and as much consistency as we can muster. And today, for the first time, a little old lady complimented him on how well behaved he was . He was so, so excited and proud. It was awesome seeing his face light up like that.
We also discovered today, in the course of continuing our effort at unfucking our house, that Bubba seems to have a rather serious dust allergy. Poor little guy was red nosed, red eyed, and coughing with that deep asthmatic cough that Monkey used to get with croup, and he lost his voice. So, we have to be far, far better about keeping the dust under control, AND when we have to do heavy duty dusting, he's going to have to be in another room. It wore him out,and he got all sleepy and crashed in the living room before we were quite done.
We did make more progress on the unfucking, though. We bought and installed a beautiful chrome floor to ceiling shower caddy, so our shampoos and stuff can stay off the shower floor. Also, last night I soaked the shower curtain in bleach/vinegar/hot water, and it came out looking like brand new! So happy to take a shower in a clean shower stall, with a clean curtain, and now this incredibly convenient caddy.
Yesterday Beloved took all the cushions off the living room furniture and vacuumed and cleaned those, and also moved them away from the walls, so they could be cleaned underneath as well. Today he attacked a set of shelves in the dining room, decluttering and dusting.
Yesterday I did stuff in the bathroom, and kitchen, which didn't really need all that much, but I want to keep it up. I don't want to just do a series of rotating unfuckings. I want to get each area unfucked, and then KEEP it unfucked. Today I finished the rest of the living room, including getting all the cd's, dvd's,and game disks organized and put away properly. I'm very proud of how it looks now. So, of course, there must be pictures!
The spawn, Beloved, and I all agree that the space just feels so much more open and comfy now. The pictures don't even do it justice.
I have threatened murder and mayhem if people don't start putting crap where it belongs when they're done, too. I 'm sick of having piles of movie and game disks stacked around, getting scratched and smudged, when we have all these lovely cases to put them in and keep them organized. I also very much like having open spaces on shelves, and clear patches on tables. I think that should continue.
Also, we made attempts to get in touch with Beloved's father and step-mom, because it's been too long since we've seen them. We are having a turkey dinner tomorrow, and that always makes me think of my in-laws (ummm... because they like to eat turkey, not because they ARE turkeys). My Mom is coming out to have dinner with us, hopefully, but it made me realize that I haven't seen my in-laws since early June, so it's about time we make some kind of plan to see them.
Anyway, bed time. I'm beat.
