walkin' the talk
so, i don't actually read comic books. or even that many graphic novels, even. and even i know that frank miller's work is, um, problematic. really. but then i see, from someone who knows him irl, as family of a friend, that's he's a 'delightful man', a 'feminist' even.
i wonder, what am i to make of this? apart from just being pissed off. b/c you can't tell me that someone who has reasonably successful movies made of his work is woefully at the mercy of his publishers/editors, so that he can't do anything beyond recycling the utterly abhorrent conventions of his genre. put your money where your motherfuckin mouth is, especially if your mouth has influences on millions more people than the individuals you're perfectly nice to in life.
perhaps i'm just overly intolerant for people who seem to leave their ethics at the door when they start getting paid for things. thoughts?
