Anger: Hostility towards the opposition

I say Anger is the most powerful negative AND positive emotion.

Go with me for a minute.

The most driven, successful people I know are angry people. Unfortunately so are some of the more damaged, crazy people I know.

There are people who are ALWAYS angry, who choose to direct their anger towards what appears to me to be random people/events. Like they let it flow out of control towards anything and just stew in their anger or lash out with vindictive acts and/or violence. While these people tend to be fairly successful, they are also some of the most un-fun to be around. (1)

There are also those who use anger to get important things done, channeling enough of it into their tasks to not carry their anger as a hindrance into the rest of their everyday lives. (2)

Then there are a large number of people who carry little to no anger ever, or they transform their anger into less useful emotions. Usually apathetic, they don’t get much done. (3)

I personally cycle between 2 and 3. The biggest things I’ve accomplished in my life (finishing college, getting a good job, moving out, buying a house) had an underlying anger that focused me into action. In between I carry no anger to focus and dilly dally on several things without really doing a whole lot.

I’ve noticed that when I can focus on anger towards something specific I can get a lot done in a short time. When I don’t have anger to drive me, I don’t get much done. I couldn’t care less.

So I’ve found that basically whenever life slows down, I have to find something useful to spark that ember of anger up and then fan it until the blazing fury directs me to the path of quickest incineration.

Does that make sense? Is it just me?
