ok. TL;DR ahead. Good stuff after the *****
So I built a new computer SOLELY for the game Unreal Tournament 3. I've been planning on it. I had saved for it. I ordered parts from the internet, as I always do. Chaos ensues.
FIRST, motherboard has a bad ram slot. RMA. yay.
SECOND, fucking 4 out of 5 memory sticks I get OVER THREE RMAS are bad on arrival. HOMG.
NEXT, I order 4 more memory sticks from another vendor, all is well.
UNTIL, I go to play UT3. Then crash after every 10 minutes. Either an exe created an error and must be shut down, or I blue screen with one of 2 different messages. WTF I SAY! I go through a ton of stuff trying to find out what the hell it is, 2 of the 3 types of crashes I get point to video card and/or drivers.
SO, I try 5 different versions of drivers while using driver cleaners blah blah blah.
IT DOESNT FIX IT, so I replace the video card.
Same errors. Now I'm convinced it's the motherboard (or rather, the chipset on the motherboard Fuck You Nvidia), because TONS of other people on forums with the same problem all seem to also have this chipset (680i) SO THAT'S GOT TO BE WHAT IT IS RIGHT? It only crashes during games. So I order a new motherboard. Guess what?
ITS DEAD ON ARRIVAL.
I'm ready to shoot myself. While testing to make sure this new MB is dead, I notice the fans inside of my powersupply aren't spinning. It still puts through power, all my chassis fans spin up, my processor fan spins up, I hook up the old motherboard and it boots up. BUT JUST TO HUMOR MYSELF, I go buy a new powersupply. In town. So I can take the fucker back.
New MB still dead. I put everything back the way it was pre-3rd motherboard. I boot up and play UT3 for two hours without getting an exe error or a blue screen. So it was the PS. It was more than big enough for the job... stupid fan.
ANYWAYS, I feel like an id10t. But now my shit works. I had to get that out.

It's a free (very lowtech) online mmorpg based in a zombie apocalypse. I'm playing a few characters, and it rocks.
