OH, WELL, IF YOU INSIST.

So, Damian al Ghul? Damian Wayne? I think Damian is a name he's very comfortable with, but he's straddling two distinct worlds with his last name(s). He's not quite an al Ghul because he wants to be a Wayne, and he's not quite a Wayne because he used to be an al Ghul and it's this probably constant tension at work. What he wants versus who he has been made to be.

But, if what he wants is to be a Wayne, and there's already someone they consider a son, then he's not sure there will be a place for him. I imagine that was his reasoning for being so aggressive to Tim in the first place. Dick is old and doing his own thing, but Tim... he still has a very viable chance of being favored over Damian, especially since, you know, he has time and exposure on his side.

Somehow Damian won out and got what he wanted: his own identity. It doesn't matter that it was the identity of four people before him. I imagine, as Robin, it's the first identity that he gets to shape for himself. Talia, we know, is absolutely insane and had his whole life plotted out. The Waynes have public obligations and reputations to uphold. Robin, though. Robin is all his own.

And he knows that at any moment, Bruce could come back and decide he likes Tim better and all of that would be taken away. He will have burnt his bridges with his mother, and have no place with his father. So Tim is a major threat to anything Damian wants, which really is just acknowledgment and positive reinforcement.
