I must say, Salem was entirely uneventful and rather dull. From all the tell I've heard about past ports, I'm disappointed ( Read more... )

Yeah, I didn't get a costume either. I'm thinking if I'm absolutely forced to wear something, I'm going to go for a bedsheet with holes cut in it.

It's good see I'm not the only one obsessed with getting a costume.

It is kind of weird, isn't it? I mean, if it was a ship full of twelve year olds that'd be one thing, but a bunch of adults willingly dressing up as pumpkins or whatever is... just kinda weird.

Exactly - what they;re so excited for is beyond me. Adults - and teenagers, which I thought would be a least a bit more mature - dressing up...and for what? I seriously doubt that the Admiral is planning to have everyone go from cabin to cabin and get candy of all things - that's be truly ridiculous.

[At least, he hopes not]

Even if he tried to make us do that? If every cabin has candy in it, then why would we bother walking to other cabins to get other peoples candy?

It just doesn't make any sense.

Yes - I just don't see why we need costumes at all. I assume the Admiral is probably going to throw some Halloween party - but that's still pointless.

This barge is just ridiculous.

Seriously! And the way parties tend to go around here, he'd be doing us all a favor by just... skipping it.

The worst bit is? It doesn't even get less weird the longer you've been here. It just never makes any sense ever.

Yes, form the stories I've heard, I'm surprised the Admiral still does anything on this Barge.

...That's just perfect.

Sometimes I wonder if it is him doing it, you know? Or if it's just like, this automated system that makes pre-recorded announcements and hands out cookies when you question it.

Sorry to break it to you. It's just... for everything that actually helps? We get three things that make things worse.

Yes, I find it hard to believe in this Admiral when we only ever here his voice when there's trouble...or about to be trouble.

I suppose I was hoping that perhaps once I settled in, as it were, the levels of ridiculous would go down.

Right! I mean, for the guy who's supposedly watching over all of us, a lot of the day to day murder and mayhem of the Barge seems to get past him. But the moment we're all about to be turned into pieces of furniture or whatever? Then suddenly he's paying attention.

...Well, you do get used to it, I guess, but it never starts making sense. You just adapt to the fact that your life is no longer based on any kind of internal logic anymore.

Indeed. I wonder about this Admiral's character, whether he's real or not.

I suppose it will get better, though I still don't see how all the things that happen here can happen here.

Sometimes I think there's actually more than one of them. Like, there's just a bunch of people who take shifts.

I don't know either. Crane thought that we were all being drugged, but I think the floods are way too consistent for that. Besides, that wouldn't account for all the coming back from the dead we get to do here.

Perhaps there are. I have seen no other forms of authority greater than "Warden" except for this "Admiral".

Yes, I do not think we're being drugged - though I don't think I'd rule out that they're - whoever they are - experimenting with us. Perhaps using us for their own means in some way or another.

Yeah, and even the wardens... I mean, they can go places we can't and they can do things we can't, but in terms of actually being authoritative? They're really not. There's maybe, five of them, total, who actually know what they're doing.

Hmm. Actually, that would explain why not everyone is affected by the floods, if a certain number of people need to act as a control sample...

Indeed. I'm quite surprised this ship gets anything at all done.

Yes, a control sample would explain it quite nicely. As for the people on this Barge...I'm sure someone experimenting would pick people of a not-quite-savory character to test on - no one misses them, and all. Plus, with the Wardens, they make a good contrast to how the Inmates are affected and how they are affected.

[CONSPIRACY THEORIES?! XD]
