Haruhi was going to go with Leon's suggestion about carving the pumpkins with the Brigade (maybe make a contest out of it) but the fact is that in light of the current situation, that just doesn't seem to be ( Read more... )

[Just what is going on over here? Edward's just out for a walk to ponder what could be done about the moon if it gets too close to the enclosure when she notices the picnic going on not far off. With an uplifted brow, she pauses, considers her options, and then wanders over. No harm in asking, right?]

You guys are cutting up pumpkins at a time like this?

Holiday? Is there some kind of moon apocalypse holiday that I don't know about?

[Deftly, Haruhi returns to her work. Cutting open the head, carving it out... but she does clarify despite this-]

It's sort of a celebration of fear and monsters. The origins are a bit vague, but in other countries back home it's popular.

So what's with the pumpkins?

They're called jack-o-lanterns. Basically, you make faces or designs into the pumpkins, light a candle in them, and bam, lantern. And no, I don't know the details but I'm egalitarian when it comes to these things.
