CHARACTER INFO
Name: England / Arthur Kirkland
Age: 23
Fandom: Hetalia: Axis Powers
Appearance: A rather short male, standing at 175cm with a slim, yet toned build. He has scruffy blond hair tied back into a tiny ponytail and lime colored eyes. Though the first thing you will notice about him will most likely be the gigantic eyebrows hidden under his bangs. Arthur carries himself well. His posture is usually straight (though sometimes he will hunker down and take on a thug-like pose), and he can be intimidating when giving orders. More often than not, he will be frowning, unless he's in a confident mood.
Here is an example of the way he dresses. He will almost always be with an over-sized red coat.
Personality: To most people, Arthur Kirkland is seen as cold and obstinate, and definitely troublesome. He is unyielding in his beliefs (especially if he hates you, at which point he will always try to prove you wrong). Arthur can also be seen as hardworking and rigid; he will always finish a job, no matter how pointless, to you, it may seem. He will lecture anyone who questions his methods. Despite being a pirate, he has been raised rather old-fashioned and doesn't mind having some manners.
Arthur can be rather nasty when drunk and he will hold grudges forever. He absolutely hates to lose and has no problem calling you every name under the sun. He wants anyone who sees him to believe that he doesn't mind tormenting weaker individuals. He is also a closet pervert. While most of his views on the world are pessimistic, Arthur also has a romantic side. For all the bravado he portrays outwardly, there is a part of Arthur inside that wants to cling to his gentlemanly ideals. He can look threatening but may not go through with a punishment if he does not believe it is fair. He is superstitious, believing in fairies, unicorns, ghosts, and strange legends. He is a terrible cook, he drinks far too much, and he is always losing things (like the keys to his ship). Although he is a formidable space pirate, he cannot swim. At all.
Arthur acts as though he doesn't mind being alone and not having friends. Having few people around means he won't be bothered. Actually, he really is lonely and pathetic. When he does make friends, Arthur is very loyal to them. He will throw himself into learning about them, and sometimes will give them gifts. If he feels he has been betrayed, however, he may never forgive you. Relying only on himself has made him a bit of a loner. Kirkland is cynical and stubborn to the point where he will refuse to back down to anyone. This standoffish attitude prevents him from getting close to people.
He knows a lot about fighting and tactics, and has spent ample time battling on air and land. He is used to not only giving commands, but also taking them. He wants to be strong, but is stronger when he has something he wants to protect, or someone to guide him. Though he is very distant in his feelings, when he is fighting or working, he prefers to take things head-on. It should be noted that he is weak-willed and sometimes even naive when preparing for a fight. Arthur cannot always make rational decisions on his own. He lets his emotions get the better of him and often needs prodding and supervision to move in the right direction.
Arthur is made up of layers and contradictions. Even with all his swagger, the one thing Arthur fears most is letting his friends/crew down. He constantly needs to be reassured that he is useful, that people care about him (don't ever assume he knows or should know), though he has a difficult time expressing his own feelings. He often boasts how powerful he is, yet, in reality, he has little confidence in himself in regards to other people.
Class: Pirate Captain, of the ship Albion
Backstory: Arthur Kirkland was born and raised on the planet Londinium to a very prestigious and wealthy family. His father, Uther Kirkland, was a valued member of the parliament of the Alliance. And, like most respectable families, Uther wished to pass on his legacy to his son. The good thing about his family was that he had several sons-five, to be exact-and all of them eligible to be a part of the government in some way or another. Arthur was stuck in the middle of the bunch, and often lost among the successes (or failures) of his brothers. He did his best to keep his nose out of trouble, but often found himself longing for his father's attention.
The Kirklands went to the best schools and were trained in both Alliance protocol and decorum. Arthur was a mostly good student, if not a bit lonely, but had a brief period in high school where he lashed out at others as well as skipped classes and hung out with a bad crowd. These were warning signs that his father turned a blind eye to; during Arthur's rebellious age, he simply ignored his lost lamb of a son. Again, wanting to be noticed by his father, Arthur begged for forgiveness and went back to being studious and proper.
It was only after he had gone off to military training when Arthur finally snapped. He had worked his tail off to finish high school and college and found that his father wanted nothing but perfection from all of his sons (when Uther Kirkland was not a man of perfection himself). Uther failed to acknowledge Arthur's successes at a fine dinner party, and instead talked up Arthur's older brothers. Arthur was so furious that he stormed out of the party, went home and packed his bags, and left. If his father had given up on him, then he, too, would give up on his father.
Arthur disappeared off the face of the planetary system for a while, drifting from world to world in a depressive state. When he was 21, he was taken on board a pirate ship as a cook (the biggest mistake of that captain's life) and learned the ways of smuggling and illegal trade, as well as being free from responsibility. It was a welcome break and a turning point in Arthur's life. Arthur moved from being a cook to a strategist when he almost single-handedly helped the crew out of a jam because he knew of the ship formation the military was using during an attack. From then on, Arthur began receiving the respect he had craved all those years back on Londinium. It was a rush!
It wasn't long before Arthur broke away from the ship and decided to become a captain himself. He garnered the devotion of some of the other crew members and took them with him while he used whatever savings he had to buy his own ship (no doubt through some underground/illegal dealings). In very little time, Arthur had a decent-sized crew that became very loyal to him after several successful missions. Arthur blatantly used his real name when referring to himself, thus soiling the Kirkland legacy. And all Arthur could do was laugh when he saw his name on the wanted posters, because, now, his father would finally notice him.
RP SAMPLE
First Person: [the feed to the network comes on abruptly after a few fuzzy lines. the message has interrupted an important broadcast, and now, shown on the screen is a familiar face, a young man, arms crossed, and a red jacket draped over his shoulders. he is grinning broadly. most people will know who he is...]
Good afternoon, citizens of Pandora! I hope you're all having a jolly good day. [he checks his nails here] I just thought I'd let you all in on a [then his eyes are back on the screen] little secret.
You see, I'm actually quite bored right now. I thought it'd be rather droll if I'd pop in for a quick visit. Of course, if I simply invited myself over and unannounced, it would seem rather rude, now, wouldn't it? So I thought it'd be best to give you a heads-up! How thoughtful of me, right? Of course, I extend my generosity to the members of the Alliance Military! You're all welcome to meet me at the docks, if you'd like. We'll have a romping good time!
Also, I'd like to remind those of you with anything of value that I'll personally be making a visit to your house. But I'm not going to let you know when. That's a surprise. Until then, cheerio! [and off the feed goes, just as quickly as it came]
Third Person: He had the world at his fingertips. There was no better feeling than that. Arthur was young and known throughout the system as a feared pirate that took no mercy. If he wanted something, he would take it, and very few people argued with him. Of course, the police were always looking for him, but Arthur was not afraid. He got a high being chased and knowing he could outwit even the smartest of the military.
Arthur inhaled the night air as he stood on a cliff overlooking the city. It had been a productive day, and now he was waiting for the ship preparations to be completed. Normally, he helped with that. But, right now, he wanted to be alone, wanted to revel in his expertise. It was times like these that he liked the most, when he felt so confident and his mind was clear. Usually, he was plagued by memories and thoughts of doubt. But not now. Now, he felt completely at peace. Even if it lasted only for a little while, he was happy.
"Captain," came a voice from behind him, interrupting his thoughts. Arthur did not turn around. He recognized the owner as his first-mate. "The Albion is ready, as is the crew."
"Excellent," Arthur said, finally spinning around and moving towards the ship. "I'd like to get off of this god-forsaken planet as soon as possible. It won't be long before those idiots come looking for us. In fact, I'm sure they're already on their way." He nodded his head in the direction of the Albion, indicating that the other man follow him. The next time they stopped here would not be for a while, so he turned to give the city one last glance before shutting the door. It was time for take-off.
Comments? Questions? A note: I have made plans with the America-apper for another facet of Arthur's backstory. This will be included into that section if both players are accepted into the game.
