1. What did you do in 2014 that you'd never done before?
i got hit by a car.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
i'm not sure if i made any. i sometimes do, but i might not have last year. i haven't made any for this year because the one thing i want to do most of all in 2015 is less.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
no.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
my friend alice committed suicide.
5. What countries did you visit?
none.
6. What would you like to have in 2015 that you lacked in 2014?
a way to fill my days with more joy than boredom or sadness.
7. What date from 2014 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
april 2nd (bike accident), june 12 (hearing about alice's death). those are probably the only days i'll remember with any certain clarity later.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
i got a grown folks' job.
9. What was your biggest failure?
i don't know. i don't think any of my failures this year were colossal, but i think any sense of purpose i might have felt job-wise left me this year and that has been pretty brutal.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
yes.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
ugh, i bought this macbook air which is awesome but it happened because my other computer broke unexpectedly AND it was tax season and this gal owed money to the fed.
12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
my mom's. i love my mom.
13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
moving this close to the seat of the federal government is appalling and depressing on a daily basis.
14. Where did most of your money go?
rent, food, and clothes.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
going home to see my family. seeing bruce springsteen at jazz fest even though the sound was terrible.
16. What song will always remind you of 2014?
probably wildest moments by jessie ware. maybe ivory coast by pure bathing culture.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? hard to say. i was real sad in pittsburgh, and i'm probably less sad now but it's a different kind.
ii. thinner or fatter? probably fatter. not having heat during the polar vortex keeps a girl mighty trim.
iii. richer or poorer? richer because i don't have any more mothafuckin' student loans (!!!).
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
trying to make friends, crying, talking about my feelings.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
eating food that makes me sick.
20. How will you be spending Xmas?
christmas ruled. played games, drank wine, opened presents, ate a lot.
21. Did you fall in love in 2014?
this was a hard year for me and love, but a rewarding one too. it was really the only time i felt distance between me and neil, but we worked through it and now i've got googly-eyes once again.
22. What was your favourite TV program?
definitely the west wing until i hit season 5, but also masters of sex, house of cards, orange is the new black, and chopped. finally trying to make use of that dang netflix subscription.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
not really, no.
24. What was the best book you read?
the warmth of other suns by isabel wilkerson is truly a masterpiece. i also enjoyed half of a yellow sun by chimamanda ngozi adichie, bad feminist by roxane gay, and salt sugar fat by michael moss.
BUT, i would be remiss if i didn't let the 2-3 people who read my livejournal know that I FINALLY FUCKING READ HARRY POTTER AND IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
ugh please there will never be a year that i discover any new music because i am a sad nerd.

a home and some sick power tools.

any semblance of what the fuck i'm doing with my life.

i definitely saw more than one movie this year! i really liked the theory of everything and what if and mockingjay part 1.

i went to work, where i imagine i was very bored, and then came home and made a bunch of dinner with three of my roommates. i turned 24.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
less angst.

"do shorts count as business casual?"

mom, neil, orgasms.
