White Board held for Ransom - Supervisor "shocked and saddened."

Vienna, Virginia - A supervisor at Covance Laboratories, INC was surprised to arrive at work on Monday 1/21/08 to find in place of his white board, a ransom note and a picture of it tied to a tree.  Charlie F., supervisor of the Sample Processing team since June 2007, said "I was shocked and saddened to find my board missing. It is my main means of communicating my whereabouts to other employees. This board-napping affects not only me but all of Covance."

The letter was created using letters cut out of a magazine. The captors requested 2 packs of cigarettes, a picture of Bea Arthur, and a recording of Charlie singing Madonna's "Like a Virgin."  Charlie admitted “the demands are a bit strange." However, he was confident that he would be able to meet the demands by the deadline of noon on Friday (1/25/08).

The photograph (see below) assured Charlie that his board had not been harmed as of yet, and the captors insisted that they will return it safely, if the demands are met satisfactorily. The root cause of the board-napping is unclear and no suspects have been identified at this time.
