Should I join facebook?  Here are my issues, you blogging experts clue me in.
  • Many friends and hubby are facebookers.
  • I do not want to be found by anyone from my high school
  • I do not want to use my name because of work...they search for our face book pages
  • I would use westendwordsmith; as ultimately everyone knows me by that pen name and inevitible ( Read more... )

My friend's boss found him on facebook and added him and he had to create a bogus account lickety split. Just know that something like an incriminating status (like: "Totally hungover after last night. Thanks for the fun, guys!") is gonna stay there and can't be deleted so you have to be careful who you add.

The privacy settings IMO are pretty good. You can customize really specifically who's able to see your profile and pictures. You can filter your flist like you would anywhere else such as in LJ.

As for your name, you should go ahead and use an alias if you're that concerned about being found. A really easy way to put a target on yourself is to fill out any school info so just skip those boxes when you fill out your profile.

I'm the opposite of you in wanting to be found. While I totally don't mind most people looking me up, there are just a few that I want to never find me. However, it's the online people I'm worried about so I only let RL people friend me, with the exception of a few that even though I never see them, I keep in touch with through offline communication. I don't want my RL friends and fam knowing about my time obsessing over fandom/fanfics online. They'd be like "Dude, no wonder you get so hot and bothered over Hugh Jackman. It's not just because he's a hot actor, but you totally read fanfic PR0N about Wolverine!"
