Maverick?

Rewatching the Presidential debate, yes the American one, and I have been thinking McCain really needs to drop this whole Maverick frame of thought. Honestly saying your own party nearly dislikes you as much as "that one's" party is no a strong presidential standpoint. What power do you hold f you can't get people to support and agree with you? This was never more evident than in the shooting down of the bailout plan when McCain promised to ensure it passed. Not only did it fail but in the 22 hrs it took him to actually get to Washington (great urgency there!) McCain failed to get a single member of his own state's delegation to vote for the bill. Guess being a Maverick is usefull ...eh?
