same as it ever was

The other day my parents and I were talking about all the trips my family made while we lived in Spain (late '79-'82). We spent a Christmas in Italy, and Easter in Morocco and other holidays driving through Spain and Portugal. I guess a girl gets used to it. A few months after we'd returned to the US I asked my mom where we'd be traveling to that Christmas. Upon hearing that we had no such plans, I responded, "But do you realize how long it's been since I've flown?!?".

I had a similarly low-key holiday season this year, which is just fine by me. Some quality time with the 'rents and grand'rents for Christmas and a struggling-to-stay-awake New Year's eve with my sister, nephew et al in New York. Today will be spent fielding questions from aunts and uncles and cousins about my new job and gossiping about my uncle who makes contributions to W while again eating too much. My new year will really start on Tuesday when I fly to Seattle. And I'm pretty happy about that.

Happy new year, everyone!
