Did you hear about the baby girl that was deemed "obese" by her childcare centre workers? It's a logical extension of fat hysteria and disgust, fearing even the layer of fat that keeps little children healthy. Most comments on the news articles are supportive (although careful to assert that she will surely grow up "thin"), but some people are all over themselves to express their disgust at the sight of her. I wonder if some fatphobic mothers or carers try to withhold food from babies? (Apparently I was a 'Michelin baby' but I'm sure my mum was glad of the padding.)
